Workplace communication is important to every organization. It?s how ideas are shared, people are informed, success is recognized, and issues are addressed. Without communication, silos develop, and people are left in the dark. ?A lack of communication will have a negative impact not only on employee morale and customer service, but it will also reduce productivity. And as flexible work arrangements are on the rise, it is increasingly important to keep feedback flowing and communication regular.

Having a strong internal network of communication in place will pay huge dividends. HR professionals should keep these suggestions in mind when thinking about improving internal communication.

Method of communication ? People absorb information in different ways. It?s important to make sure everyone understands information, so use a variety of methods to talk to your employees. Intranet, face-to-face meetings, emails, employee surveys, and company newsletters?there are many tools you can use to reach out to your employees, and you should choose the best method for the message you are sharing.

Clarity of Message ? Ensure your message is clear, transparent, and honest. If you deliver a message that employees don?t fully understand it can be more confusing than not communicating at all. The content of your message and level of detail should vary depending on the audience. Be careful with use of jargon and technical terms. Give your employees the opportunity to ask questions in order to ensure your message is understood.

Frequency of Conversation ? It?s important to communicate often, but not too much. If you are constantly bombarding employees with information, they may assume that you over-communicate and begin to block communication out. If you go too little, they won?t get the info they need.

Timing ? When is the best time to communicate your message? Do it at a time when you know employees will be focused and not distracted. And don?t wait until the very last minute. If you are sharing important information, be sure to give employees enough time to respond.

Message Delivery ? Ensure that the best communicator is sharing the message. If this isn?t possible, it may be necessary to coach or train those responsible. Workplace communication should be clear, concise, and delivered in an organised manner. Depending on the situation, you may need to choose the presenter carefully. For example, if you?re communicating to a large audience, ensure that the speaker is comfortable speaking in front of a big group.

Communication Must Flow Both Ways ? There are many ways to achieve this, but the most effective way is by simply listening. Ensure the lines of communication are open, in both directions. Ask questions, create discussions, and give opportunities for employee feedback.

Workplace communication isn?t always going to be easy, but it is vital to employee performance and the success of the organisation. HR Professionals are responsible for managing communication within the organisation and helping leaders communicate effectively. And better communication, means a better organisation.

Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) members are all invited to the 2012 Badminton Tournament to be held at the Metro Sports Badminton Club, Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City on November 24, 2012.

The Badminton Tournament is part of the series of annual recreation and sports activities organized by the Membership Development Division (MDD) of the Chamber. The event aims to promote camaraderie, networking and an active lifestyle for CCCI members.

Participating teams of members may play in one of the following categories: (a) Doubles ? Men, (b) Doubles ? Women and (c) Doubles ? Mixed.

Registration fee per team is Php 2, 000.00 ? the fee is inclusive of snacks, lunch, court rental and shuttlecock. Participants are expected to bring their own rackets for the tournament. Registration of participants is on-going until November 20, 2012.

The top three teams at the end of the tournament will receive trophies and cash prizes: the champion will receive Php 5, 000.00; the 1st runner-up Php 3, 000.00; and the 2nd runner-up will receive Php 2, 000.00.

Fords UK MyKey Launch. | Car Reviews,finance,lease & purchase tips

Britain?s best-selling new Ford Fiesta will be the first car in the UK to feature Ford?s MyKey technology, which enables parents to place restrictions on younger drivers to promote safer driving.

Ford-exclusive MyKey enables owners to programme a key ? usually for younger drivers ? that restricts the top speed of the Fiesta, reduces the maximum volume of audio system, and even disables the audio system altogether if driver and passengers are not using safety belts. It also can prevent the driver from deactivating safety technologies such as Electronic Stability Control and Active City Stop, which can help mitigate or prevent low-speed collisions.

?All parents know that if teenagers are experts at one thing, it?s finding ways of getting into trouble,? said Ford?s European MyKey system architect, Peter Patzelt. ?MyKey allows Fiesta owners to set sensible restrictions for young drivers, and delivers peace-of-mind for parents.?

The launch comes as the Government confirms it will take action to improve road safety among young drivers.

European drivers under the age of 25 are up to twice as likely to be involved in a fatal accident; and a Ford-commissioned survey of the parents of 17- to 20-year-old drivers reveals 46 per cent say their number one concern is that their children are speeding.

MyKey was first introduced by Ford in the U.S., and is now standard on most new North American Ford vehicles. MyKey also now features as standard equipment across much of the new Fiesta range, and Ford ultimately plans to roll-out the technology across its European product line-up by 2015.

MyKey works by recognising different keys for the same car and then adjusting the vehicle settings according to the owner?s requirements. It also enables owners to programme chimes to sound at set points between 40-80mph, prevents seatbelt reminders from being disabled and delivers an earlier low-fuel warning.

With the statistics, it certainly looks that these restrictions could be necessary for many young drivers. Parents, would you use MyKey on your childrens cars or do you trust that they are being responsible? Young drivers, do you feel that MyKey restrictions are generalising you and your friends as bad drivers and you feel that you should be trusted to follow the rules on your own account, or do you think that the restrictions would be a good precaution for many drivers?

Over the course of his Academy Award-winning career, Ang Lee has crossed over from Taiwanese box office successes to American arthouse classics and Hollywood blockbusters, proving his hand with family drama, comedy, period pieces, epic martial arts action, romance, and even superheroes along the way. But up 'til now, he's never tried making a 3D adventure about a shipwrecked boy and his CGI tiger -- so in honor of this weekend's Certified Fresh Life of Pi, we decided to take a look back at Lee's wildly eclectic filmography, and came up with a list that has something for pretty much everyone. A rare critical misfire for Lee, 2009's Taking Woodstock found the director heading back in time to 1969 to tell the story of Elliot Tiber (Demetri Martin), the interior designer who helped make Woodstock happen by offering the festival organizers boarding at his motel after hearing they'd lost their permit. While most critics agreed that Lee did a fine job of capturing the period detail of a watershed moment in America's cultural history, many felt he failed to effectively convey the dramatic stakes of his story -- although for a handful of dissenters, the whole was still more than the sum of its parts. "This is very light material, and, unusually for a Lee picture, not everybody in the ensemble appears to be acting in the same universe, let alone the same story," wrote Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune, then conceding, "On the other hand: It's fun."

Filmed just as the genre started coming into its own as something other than purely escapist entertainment, Hulk proved that comic book flicks had something to offer for "serious" directors -- even if the end result was regarded as something of a critical and commercial letdown. What To Expect When You're Grieving

Dear friends recently lost their dad. I remember being surprised after my dad died at how bone tired I was. As one acquainted with grief, I offer this short primer, not as a scientific study, but as an anecdotal narrative of what I've experienced, what I've observed and what you may expect.

1. Exhaustion???
Emotional work is physically exhausting. You will wake up tired, your sleep patterns will be disrupted, a deep weariness settles in. Make allowances for being tired; avoid extra responsibilities if you can. Take a nap without apologizing for it.

2. Disorientation ???
Your brain is overwhelmed with thoughts and feelings. It is hard to focus. You repeat yourself in conversations. You begin a sentence, but can't finish it. Fog is everywhere. Your ability to think sequentially is diminished. Basic decisions?where to eat, what to do next?are challenging.

3. Absorption
When someone you love dies, you look for clues, for signs, for anything that can help you make sense of his/her life. Or make sense of his/her death. You examine the relationship you shared, reviewing communications, reminding yourself of what is true. The more contradictions there are, the more you ponder. We want to understand, but the understanding doesn't always come.??

4. Apathy
You couldn't care less.? You stop eating. Or you can't stop eating. Personal hygiene slips. You are tempted to veg-out with TV, computer games, mindless occupations. Habits help. Brush your teeth, take a walk.?

5. Isolation
Grief is a lonely thing. After the outpouring of your friends' comfort and compassion, life for them returns to normal. But your life is unalterably changed. Grief makes people uncomfortable, unsure of their response, so they may avoid you in an effort to protect themselves. You may be reluctant to articulate your grief to yourself, let alone to others. Living in community can propel you into social situations that insulate you from isolation.?

There is no getting around the fact that grief is painful. We don't like pain, so we search for shortcuts that will make the pain go away. I've seen folks allot 4-7 days to grieve and then pack up their grief and put it into storage. But grief too quickly stowed will return, ringing the doorbell, insisting on being present.?

How long will this last? Ecclesiastes 3 gives a clue: To everything there is a season, a time to every purpose under heaven. (emphasis mine) Three months is a normal time to experience the deep initial wave of grief. The loss will be with you until the end of your days; you will never be "over it."

And then there will be a moment of realization that?for a moment?you had forgotten how sad you were. It feels like betrayal to experience a slice of joy.

Another moment will come when you feel like you should be sad, but the emotion is just not there. Then you make a decision to either manufacture the sadness or to let that moment pass. There is a ditch on both sides of the road: the ditch of denying grief, pretending you are fine; and the ditch of gripping grief with clenched hands that won't release it.? When the tears come, let them. But don't force them.

The summer after my mom died, I remember a moment of social awkwardness and resulting tears at a summer camp. Some girl impatiently demanded to know why I was crying. I was too embarrassed to articulate my awkwardness, so I played my trump card: "Well, wouldn't you cry if your mom had died?" It was patently dishonest, and my ten-year-old self recognized?and regretted?the manipulation the moment those words left my mouth.

Underneath all of these thoughts is my faith that God is sovereign, that He knows my tears, and that I can trust Him. He doesn't erase the pain as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, but He does promise to comfort us. And that is enough.
