Remains of the Day: Microsoft Sees Every Windows 8 App You Download [For What It's Worth]

Remains of the Day: Microsoft Sees Every Windows 8 App You Download Microsoft's SmartScreen technology sees every app you download, several NBC shows are coming to Amazon Prime Instant Video, Xbox Live is getting a special presidential election hub, and Evernote announces Evernote Business and a Partnership with Moleskine.

  • Windows 8 Tells Microsoft About Everything You Install, Not Very Securely Security researcher Nadim Kobeissi claims that Microsoft's new SmartScreen technology in Windows 8, which sends data to Microsoft on every app you install to prevent users from downloading malicious software, is a privacy breach since Microsoft can technically see things that you're downloading. Microsoft has responded to this issue and said that it's "unlikely" that Microsoft will track what you download. [Nadim Kobeissi]
  • Amazon Announces Expanded Prime Instant Video Agreement with NBCUniversal Cable & New Media Distribution Amazon has partnered up with NBCUniversal to bring a slew of NBC content to the popular video streaming service. New shows include Parks and Recreation, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, and Friday Night Lights. [Amazon]
  • Microsoft to Launch "Election 2012 Hub on Xbox LIVE" Microsoft will be launching a new hub on Xbox Live that will let users keep up with the upcoming presidential election. It's planned to launch on August 27, and will feature live coverage of the debates as well as live feeds from the national conventions. You'll also be able to register to vote through Rock the Vote. • Evernote Announces Evernote Business and a Partnership with Moleskine Evernote has launched Evernote Business, a version of Evernote that includes features specifically for small and medium-sized businesses. Features include easy account sharing, separate private and public notebooks, and dedicated phone support. The company also announced a partnership with Moleskine and announced the Evernote Smart Notebook. Specialized Moleskine notebooks will use a specific kind of paper that allows users to take a photo of the page and have it be browsable and searchable in the app. [TechCrunch]
